Due to the expected impacts of Tropical Storm Helene, the public groundbreaking ceremony for the new Monroe County Recreation Department gymnasium that was scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 26 has been postponed.
The groundbreaking event will now be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 1 at the Monroe County Rec Department at 100 Dan Pitts Drive.
The new two-court, indoor recreation gym will be located at the site of the existing outdoor basketball courts, which are being relocated to make way for the new gym. The new gym is expected to cost just over $2.8 million to construct. Forsyth’s own Proform Construction is the builder for the project.
